Scholarships

The IMCF maintains a scholarship program for all instruments. These scholarships are “partial,” in that they result in a reduction of study fees anywhere from 10 – 50%. The number of scholarships given out depends on the school’s budget at the time.

The following criteria are considered in the allocation of scholarships:

  • financial hardship
  • exceptionally worthy or deserving musical talent

To apply for a scholarship at IMCF, the applicant must submit the following material (postmarked by 6/30):

  • an informal proposal, including an explanation of musical career goals and an accurate statement of financial circumstances
  • a detailed education/work resume
  • a demo CD (with a description of the contents)
  • lead sheets or parts of original compositions, if available
  • newspaper articles and/or reviews, if available
  • two letters of recommendation (e.g., from previous music teachers, orchestra leaders, etc.)

The school directors of the IMCF decides by 7/15 of the same year on the granting of scholarships for the coming school year, and reserves the right to a final decision. A rejection of an application requires no explanation.

Scholarships are in effect for 1 school year. To receive a scholarship for a longer period of time, a student must reapply each year.

Each complete scholarship application received by IMCF meeting the above deadline is taken into consideration and answered in writing.

The student who is awarded a scholarship has the following duties or responsibilities to the IMCF:

  • attendance at all school classes, lectures and seminars
  • strong commitment in all study subjects
  • gratis assistance with school projects and events as a school representative
